'Memories of My Melancholy Whores' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

I didn't read this in Spanish - unfortunately - and I have a feeling that may have excised the culture and poetry in Garcia Marquez's book. Although if you think about it, a good author is good in any language.

It's a nice short read. Don't expect a lot of lechery as suggested by the title. The plot revolves around the life of a nonagenarian who falls in love for the first time and finds a new way of living and looking at things. One would think at 90, you'd be better off dead. Garcia Marquez's protagonist is hale as can be though and to prove it, he's even gone ahead and wooed a 14-year-old.

Hmm...
