To use the British colloquialism 'gobsmacked' would aptly describe how I felt upon reading this chef d'ouvre, this great opus. Perhaps I just have a thing for experimental fiction, for thick tapestries of culture? Who cares. Steinbeck is a master and this is one his pieces.
